Tragically

Kacy Howe thumbnail
Kacy Howe This is an expertly written album that mixes both difficult musicianship with catchy melodies. Ether After does not seem afraid to constrain themselves on what should be typically included in a song. No discernable verse/chorus structure? Sure, they'll try it. A jazz breakdown in the middle of a rock song? Why not.

I highly recommend pulling up the lyrics to the songs as you listen along, as there is a story being told throughout the album. Favorite track: Sounds of a Body Hitting the Dancefloor.

Cloudy room, old acquaintances I’ve been here before, Another job, another crime My life of sin, is home Handed a glass, watch her pass, In drunken stupor. Lead to the darkened room Her scent it lured me in I watch her with no one around So I lock the door, I know what she’s for She makes me, so anxious So insecure, is it worth it? I knew as soon as I saw her face That she rules the world, between the sheets I knew as soon as I saw her face That she’d ruin my world, she’d be my queen Handed a glass, watch her pass In drunken stupor Lead to the darkened room Her scent, it lured me in Cloudy eyes, that pierce inside What is this feeling? Can she see, through my disguise? I think I am falling.

Tell me how to get a lot for a little I don’t have a lot of time to waste on this They told me set my sights on the middle I want more, I just can't resist Feelings don’t mean much to me If you love me, I've got nothing to say Yeah I smile, but it isn’t free We’ll be good when I know that you’ll pay Excess in Excess (It’s the only way I know) Excess in Excess (I just can’t let go) Excess in Excess Excess in Excess (It’s the only way I know) Tell me how you make me feel so little I haven't got anywhere to be Always been the type to be noncommittal Just a hit, in a blink and I'd leave I’ve never felt this way before, give it chance You could love me after today Stay with me, my Queen, just dance Our life doesn’t have to end this way Excess in Excess (It's the only way I know) Excess in Excess (I just can’t let go) Excess in Excess (Don’t go back to the red lights) Excess in Excess (Just stay with me tonight)

There's nowhere to run, there's nowhere to hide Before you are lost I'll make you mine I'm seeing red and I have no regrets So I'm giving it all for one more try Oh this love can’t be (She's all for me) Is it one for all (Is this love at --) All you want is gain (to pad your vault) All the knicks and stains (its all your fault) All my hurt and pain, I’m hunting you, I’m hunting I’m pulling strings, you’ve caught my line Before you’re lost I’ll make you mine I’m seeing red, I’ve caught your scent So I’m giving it all for one more try Oh this love can’t be (She's all for me) Is it one for all (Is this love at --) All you want is gain (to pad your vault) All the knicks and stains (its all your fault) All my hurt and pain, I’m hunting you, I’m hunting

Thirty Edges, thirty window ledges The tenements have evidence of airing dirty laundry Her neighbors don’t mind her number of sides As long as she, she locks herself in. The rain leaves toxic puddles Among the street life’s struggles And there is anonymity In Shrouded City’s shapes of gray The rain leaves toxic puddles Among the street life’s struggles And headlights hit the building sides Of the red light district fire escapes The wine stained dress that you, that you left in Just left to see on hosiery mistakes will find you guilty But since you refuse, I’ll light this fuse And gasoline to torch this crime scene The rain leaves toxic puddles Among the street life’s struggles And there is anonymity In Shrouded City’s shapes of gray The rain leaves toxic puddles Among the street life’s struggles And headlights hit the building sides Of the red light district fire escapes Why did I let you go? Why did I, why did I? Why did I let go? Why did I, let you go? The rain leaves toxic puddles Among the street life’s struggles And there is anonymity In Shrouded City’s shapes of gray The rain leaves toxic puddles Among the street life’s struggles And headlights hit the building sides Of the red light district fire escapes

Dear Father, please forgive me I have sinned It’s been two weeks since my last confession And I’m not exactly sure where I have been. But one thing’s certain, hearts can change their mind This is something I’ve not felt before—it’s new to me Could this feeling lead to something more Dear Father, I’ve had a change of heart and I’m not who I was anymore Dear Father, can I go all the way back to the start No I’m not who I not who I was anymore Dear Father don’t bother to absolve my sins I’ve done it, what I said, I wouldn’t do again No I’m not ashamed, no I’m not afraid to be stricken down where I stand Dear Father don’t bother I’ll take it all to the grave Dear Father (Dear father) I’ve had a change of heart (Don’t bother) and I’m not who I was anymore Dear Father (No I’m not ashamed) Can I go all the way back to the start (no I’m not afraid, To leave it all behind) But one thing’s certain, hearts can change their mind

The front steps of the church in the pouring rain Your ride awaits for your swift escape You fall into his trap make no mistake Could stop you, yet I refrain Round and round just like a turnstile Miss by inches, seems like a mile I know all the plans I had for you If I can’t have you, no one else should I can’t see you with him, I can’t take it My blood is boiling will I make it? When will this chasing ever end? My final sin, then I can quit Round and round just like a turnstile Miss by inches, seems like a mile I know all the plans I had for you If I can’t have you, no one else should Oh, but Sunrise, to kill a queen No, it wouldn’t change a thing Before sunrise I’ll kill a dream I’ve got you now, my heartless queen.

Fancy place, can’t find your face Search the crowd, must track you down I see you there, with red dress flair You think you’re safe, but be afraid I won’t just let you FADE AWAY Now I stand with hands that match your dress, Dreams of new life lay at my feet, It wasn’t supposed to end like this, It wasn’t supposed to end. Silent place, I kiss your face The crowd is there, oh how they stare They see us here, and now they fear No longer safe and now afraid I won't just let them fade away. Now I stand with hands that match your dress, Dreams of new life lay at my feet, It wasn’t supposed to end like this, It wasn't supposed to end.

about

Originally formed in 2013 by drummer Rolf Nelson and guitarist/lead vocalist Saxon Lewis, Ether After began molding their sound. It wasn’t until bassist Zak Krzystyniak joined, that the trio found their real voice and began writing the stories through the eyes of the citizens of Shrouded City.

Claiming the Dallas area as home, they have played in venues around the metroplex, all the while garnering comparisons of their live show to At the Drive-In, Coheed and Cambria, The Fall of Troy.

Thanks to: Mical Cameron, Michael Briggs, Kacy Howe, Sarah Sloan, Kyle Coleman, Israel Isás, Perry Neil, Savage and the Big Beat, The Birds of Night, Pseudo Future, Wolves Reign, The Heavy Hands and Moon Grave. To All of our friends and family, thanks for all your love and support!

Tragically is the initial offering from Ether After, chronicling the story of Sunrise, a Shrouded City hitman looking forward to retirement, but only has his life complicated after crossing paths with Queenie, an escort in the prime of her career.

Recorded in 2 days by Michael Briggs of Civil Recording Denton, Texas.
